Analysis of Platoon Platoon is a moving picture that was written and directed by Oliver St oneness about the Vietnam War. Oliver Stone is a Vietnam War veteran. The movie is realistic, graphic, and has explicit language. The movie follows one soldier, Chris Taylor through his assignment in Vietnam. There are many philosophies that can be applied, however, while will only permit this writer to analysis one of them; nihilism. Nihilism as defined by the Internet cyclopedia of Philosophy is the belief that all values are idle and that nothing can be known or communicated. This school of thought is present in many aspects of this movie, as explained below. The first metre nihilism is shown is at the beginning. Chris Taylor, a modernistic soldier arriving in Vietnam for the first time, arrives to see a plethora of bodies organism taken back to the United States in body bags. Nihilism is shown here, because it shows the new soldier that nothing is being done and that all that is incident is people are dying. At one point just the beginning of the movie, Chris Taylor states in a voice-over Somebody once wrote, wickedness is the impossibility of reason, and this place feels like it. Nihilism is shown here as Taylor believes that he can change nothing by being in Vietnam, and he has only been there for a week.

In a earn to his grandmother, Taylor explains that he felt as though he needed to defend his country, as his grandfather did in orbit War I and his father did in World War II. However, he believes that he has made a massive mistake in volunteering for the war, especially for infantry. He also explains that the soldiers he is with are what he calls, bottom of the barrel. They have nothing, not til now a diploma from high school and from unknown places. He goes on to say how he is the new guy and as an unwritten rule, the new guys life isnt worth as much cause he hasnt put his time in yet.
