Joan Didion is a diminutive, petite s featurey-something year-old journalist who was encouraged to keep or journal from the age of five. Her mother said that she had in any case many feelings to keep them inside of her head, and she should feel free to bring out her thoughts in order to keep from driving herself crazy. The excerpt that I have chosen to talk over comes from chapter 4 of her above-referenced book. This book resonated with me in many ways, and this particular chapter, some poignantly. This writer is amazingly able to take the everyday event and transform it into words that describe the moment linked to the event. The book title says it all The Year of Magical Thinking. This book is a fantastic example of how some of us believe that by doing the right things, the right results will happen.
