Closure, Suspense and Surprise in hot dog Heaven
Published in 1989 on The New Yorker, bounder Heaven is an interesting short story by Stephanie Vaughn. The bank clerk recalls events of 24 years back, when her father earned a existing working as an Army officer in displume of the missile batteries at Fort Niagara, where her family used to reside. She was one of a small group of Army kids at the Lewiston-Porter Central educatehouse along the American-Canadian b rank. She had a close friend named Sparky Smith, whose family also lived on the base. Two days before leaving Fort Niagara her family took their pricey dog, Duke, fourteen miles from the post to Charlie Battery and left him with the sargeant. They planned on leaving him thither for six weeks or so until they managed to decrease at their recent place in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The storyteller recalls a class on Fact Monday, when her high school teacher, overleap Bintz, gave a lecture on nuclear weapons. She showed slides of the injure women and children in Hiroshima during the devastating bombing of the U.S and demanded her military students to answer the head word of where the bombs came from. Perhaps frightened, or tired, the teller gave a rather shadowy answer: The bomb comes from the mother bomb.
