Masculinity is seen as the physical strength and boldness tradition on the wholey attributed to a man. In Ernest Hemingways novel, The Sun Also Rises, is is viewed differently. The novel is incorporates twain parallel stories in one. In the part of the novel, in which the kindred between the bulls and steers constitutes the relationship between Jake and his acquaintances. Ironically, the people who are closely like bulls are Jake and Brett although they are the least physically weak. with out the novel, Hemingway shows how his view of masculinity defers from the standard definition.

Cohn is supposed to hold still for the bull with his physical attributes and his past as a boxer. Although all this is true, he can not handle seeing Brett with early(a) men and does many senseless things because of it. He fights with Mike everlastingly and evens beats up Romero. After each fight, may it be physical or verbal, Cohn runs away and cries before begging for forgiveness. This shows Hemingways feeling that men who physically overpower others as a way for them to let out their own insecurities. Mike, who is supposed to symbolize the other bull, is just as weak as Cohn. He constantly contumelys Cohn because of his insecurity of Bretts relationship with Cohn. Tell him bulls have no balls, Mike shouts this to be said to Romero.



This is a direct insult to Romero because of his young age and his career of a bullfighter. Mike is very jealous of his relationship with Brett and drinks himself into submission many nights because of it. This is a reoccurring approximation in Hemingways works.
