The official piety of Ancient Greece was the Olympian religion. Of course that religion lacked a major element. That element was the emotional connection that the Greeks timber towards the Gods. During the Hellenistic period arcanum passions began to thrive and most Greeks join them to fill the emotional void that the Olympian Religion had. A frenzy is a religious group that exists on the fringes of religion. These mystery cults were all different, yet they all had major elements that were common end-to-end them. All Greeks wanted to fill salvation and eternal invigoration so that was the foundation of all the mystery cults. Also some Greeks wanted to have an emotional connection with a high power. These mystery religions formed so that Greeks could have that emotional stick with a god/goddess. All mystery cults were exclusive and you need to join to be a part of one. They did these rituals to show their faith and love for the god/goddess that the cult worshiped. All mystery cults had this belief in fertility. Members would pray and erupt sacrifices to have a fertile farm and to also have kids. One of the last common characteristics that all mystery cults had was this sexy ideology. Basically they had orgies to become closer to their god/goddess. The people in mystery cults would want to form a personal fond regard with his/her god/goddess.
